With this work I was playing with Plato's Allegory of the Cave. The character is seeking to break from his chains and limitations in order to open his eyes.
These pen and ink drawings surround my world and mythos, The Islands of Niljora, a reflection on our human timeline from ancient history to the modern world. Using various forms of narration - eg. continuous, panoptic, synoptic - the viewer is guided through a dizzying path of tales, metaphors and symbols, denoting the ever-renewing nature of history, the fleeting manner of the mind, and the mercurial nature of stories. My works, from these abstracted figurative worlds, to realist pieces, form artifacts of this created world like invented realities, and whisper its secrets.
